Scheduling changes for UC Berkeley graduation speakers

– MEMO TO THE MEDIA
Scheduling change for UC Berkeley graduation speaker

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean, who was scheduled to give the keynote address tomorrow (Saturday, May 13) at the graduation ceremony for the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall), has canceled his plans. He is among elected officials who have said they will not appear as planned because they will not cross union picket lines.

The local union leaders for AFSCME, which represents custodians, landscape maintenance workers and food service workers, have said union members will picket UC Berkeley commencements where elected officials are scheduled to speak.

Commencement ceremonies for the campus's schools and colleges continue through May 22. For additional information, contact the Media Relations office at (510) 642-3734.
