WHAT
Art students at the University of California, Berkeley, will paint a mural on the east wall of a People's Park building that once was covered in graffiti. The five students heading the project are members of the summer sessions' "Approaches to Painting" class, taught by Cynthia Innis. "It's a unique and ideal opportunity for the art department and the students to interact with the community," Innis said. At least two dozen art students and community volunteers have been recruited to work on the mural, which will include scenes and faces at People's Park.

WHEN
Work on the mural will begin at 9 a.m. on both Friday, July 14, and Saturday, July 15, and continue through the afternoon. Sketching will take place on Friday and painting will take place on Saturday. The project is expected to be completed in a week. The optimum time for reporters and camera crews to cover the event is after 11 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday, when the work is under way.

WHERE
The east side of the office/restroom building at People's Park, facing Bowditch Street. People's Park is three blocks south of the UC Berkeley campus and is bounded by Bowditch, Haste Street and Dwight Way.
