WHAT
"What are Americans VOTING for? Do Ideas Matter in Politics?" a panel discussion sponsored by the University of California, Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies.
Some of America's leading liberal voices will discuss the role of ideas in politics, the influence of the Internet in political debate, and the upcoming elections. The event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the World Affairs Council and The Rockridge Institute, a think tank for progressives.

Bruce Cain, director of the campus's Institute of Governmental Studies and director of the UC Washington Center in Washington, D.C., will moderate a panel that will include the following guests:
George Lakoff, linguistics professor at UC Berkeley, senior fellow at The Rockridge Institute, and author of several books including "Don't Think of an Elephant: Know Your Values and Frame the Debate -The Essential Guide for Progressives."
Robert Reich, public policy professor at UC Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy, former secretary of labor under the Clinton Administration, and author of 10 books including "Reason: Why Liberals Will Win the Battle for America."
Joan Blades, co-founder of Moveon.org and Momsrising.org, co-author of the book "The Motherhood Manifesto: What America's Moms Want - and What to Do about It," and co-founder of Berkeley Systems, a software company known for the After Dark screensaver.
Markos Moulitsas, founder of Daily Kos, a popular daily weblog with political analysis on the nation's current events from a liberal perspective. He also is co-author of the book "Crashing the Gates: Netroots, Grassroots, and the Rise of People-Powered Politics." Moulitsas is also a former U.S. Army soldier.
