Nelson Polsby campus memorial on Thursday

Campus memorial event will honor UC Berkeley professor Nelson W. Polsby
A memorial service will be held at the University of California, Berkeley, this Thursday (April 5) to honor Nelson W. Polsby, one of the world's leading experts on American politics and the U.S. Congress. He died in February at age 72.
The service, which will include remarks by numerous colleagues from UC Berkeley and by scholars from around the world, will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. at Zellerbach Hall. Family members will also participate in the service, which is being held by UC Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies and the campus's Charles and Louise Travers Department of Political Science, in coordination with the Polsby family.
Polsby joined the UC Berkeley faculty in 1967 and never left, teaching courses in American politics, Congress and presidential elections. As a highly esteemed researcher and scholar, his work inspired future academics and reshaped their understanding of the American political system. Polsby died at his home in Berkeley following complications associated with heart disease. The Polsby family and the political science department recently announced the establishment of the Nelson W. Polsby Memorial Graduate Student Fund, which will provide financial support to students interested in studying the U.S. Congress.
