UC Berkeley Press Release
Sympathy banner for Virginia Tech
BERKELEY – MEMO TO THE MEDIA
UC Berkeley students creating sympathy banner for Virginia Tech dorm
TV and print reporters and photographers are welcome to document the signing today (Wednesday, April 18) of a large banner being filled with student condolences for a Virginia Tech residence hall where two students were killed in Monday's shooting spree. The UC Berkeley effort for West Ambler Johnston Hall was the idea of Bradley Kane, a resident advisor at Unit 2, a housing complex that includes Wada, Ehrman and Cunningham halls.
The approximately 10-by-3-foot yellow banner will be available for signing and viewing today at Crossroads dining commons at 2415 Bowditch St. (at Channing Way) at lunch, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., and at dinner, from 5-9 p.m. The message on the banner says in large blue letters, "West Ambler Johnston Hall at Virginia Tech. We're thinking of you!" The banner will be sent to Virginia Tech tomorrow.
"This issue has touched a lot of people, especially as one of the people killed was an R.A. (resident adviser)," said Kane, who will be available for live interviews between noon and 1 p.m. and can be reached at other times by phone at (510) 643-9406 or (510) 384-0140 (cell).
