WHAT
An event at the University of California, Berkeley, to announce the largest gift in campus history. The landmark gift, from a leading Bay Area foundation, will provide the campus with a major new source of endowed funds to help close the funding gap between UC Berkeley and its elite private peers.
Through a challenge grant, the gift will create endowed chairs, permanent funds designed to keep UC Berkeley professors' salaries competitive with those at the best private schools and to retain top graduate students.
WHEN
10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10. The program will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. and conclude around 11:30 a.m. following a question-and-answer session for reporters.
WHERE
Morrison Reading Room, Doe Library, UC Berkeley. See campus map.
WHO
Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, members of the faculty and student body, and foundation representatives will be among the speakers at the event.
