Hewlett Gift

UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, Hewlett Foundation Chairman, Walter Hewlett, and members of both institutions announced the foundation's gift of $113 million dollars, to a packed crowd at Doe Library's Morrison Reading Room. The challenge grant will match other donations, to provide $220 million for 100 new endowed chairs. These clips from Birgeneau and Hewlett address the motivation behind the largest private donation UC Berkeley has received in its history.
