New Web site highlights campus's 2008 election experts

– As the U.S. presidential campaign heats up and attention begins to turn to the Feb. 5 California primary, expect to see more UC Berkeley experts quoted in the print and broadcast media.

This week, UC Berkeley Media Relations is launching a Web site designed to assist reporters seeking campus experts to comment on presidential election-related topics including campaign tactics, gender and politics, and the pros and cons of various health care proposals. The Web site is accessible at: http://newscenter.berkeley.edu/goto/campaign08.

"We want to make sure that the voting public can benefit from the unique expertise and insight our faculty can offer. The new Web site and other efforts will help reporters from across the county - and from news outlets around the world - know about them. We'll also try to make sure that the Berkeley student voice gets a chance to be heard, too," said Marie Felde, executive director of Media Relations.

Professors featured on the new Web page are closely following the presidential contest and have agreed to set aside time for interviews with national and major regional reporters. The online list of experts will be updated and expanded as the news cycle and issues dictate.

UC Berkeley Media Relations also works directly with reporters to assist them in finding experts for stories on many other issues in the news and also guides professors interested in placing their commentaries in the nation's leading op-ed pages.
