WHAT
A press conference to kick off the University of California, Berkeley's first online summit on how to get ahead of a tidal wave of 78 million aging Baby Boomers and create aging-friendly communities. UC Berkeley's pantheon of experts on aging will talk about the pressing need for America to prepare for the so-called "silver tsunami."
More than 1,000 people across the globe have signed up for the Aging-Friendly Communities Web conference, which runs for three consecutive Wednesdays from Feb. 20-March 5. UC Berkeley experts at the press conference will include:
- Ronald Lee, demographer
- William Satariano, epidemiologist
- Paola Timiras, molecular biologist
- Andrew Scharlach, gerontologist
DETAILS
The press conference will begin with a 2-minute video on aging-friendly communities in the Bay Area, followed by short presentations from the experts on aging. At 9:50 a.m., Scharlach, a professor of social welfare, will officially launch the summit from a computer at his office across from the Social Welfare Library.
