UC Berkeley Web Feature
Trouble viewing the new UC Berkeley home page?
BERKELEY – Following the launch of UC Berkeley's new home page this week, some users have encountered problems displaying the page. These problems can nearly always be resolved by simply clearing the web browser's cache and reloading the page.
The reported problems — pages displaying as long lists, without correct graphics, or with an overall gold or blue background — occur when individual web browsers have saved incomplete versions of the old page in their cache, preventing the new page from displaying completely. The problem is inherent in how web browsers operate, not in the design or coding of the new site.
To clear your browser's cache, follow these instructions for the latest versions of common web browsers:
- Firefox (PC or Mac): In the menu, select Tools, then select Clear Private Data… Check only the Cache box, and click on Clear Private Data Now. If necessary, click the browser's Reload Current Page button (or View > Reload in the menu, or Ctrl-R/Cmd-R, or F5).
- Internet Explorer 7 (PC): In the menu, select Tools, then Internet Options. On the General tab, in the Browsing History section, choose Delete…, then in the Temporary Internet Files section click Delete Files… If necessary, click the browser's Refresh button (or View > Refresh in the menus, or F5).
- Internet Explorer 6 (PC): In the menu, select Tools, then Internet Options. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, choose Delete Files…, then click OK. (You do not need to check Delete All Offline Content.) If necessary, click the browser's Refresh button (or View > Refresh in the menus, or F5).
- Safari (Mac): In the Safari menu, select Empty Cache (Opt-Cmd-E) and click Empty. If necessary, click the Reload button (View > Reload Page in the menu, or Cmd-R).
- Safari (PC): In the Edit menu, select Empty Cache (Ctrl-Alt-E), then click Empty. If necessary, click the Reload button (View > Reload Page in the menu, or Cmd-R).
- Opera (PC or Mac): In the Tools menu, select Delete Private Data. Click the Details button to expand the selections, check only Delete Entire Cache and click Delete. If necessary, click the Reload button (Ctrl-R/Cmd-R or F5).
