WHAT
"The Future of Biofuels?", a panel discussion hosted by the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley. The event is being organized by the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation's Washington., D.C., exchange fellowship program.
Panelists include Chris Somerville, director of the Energy Biosciences Institute at UC Berkeley; Tad Patzek, an outspoken critic of the biofuels industry and a geoengineering professor at UC Berkeley; Doug Dickson, vice president of Ag Products at Pacific Ethanol Inc.; and Anastasios Melis, professor of plant and microbial biology at UC Berkeley.
These energy experts will talk about the future of the biofuels industry and the impact of biofuels on the economy and society.

J. Keith Gilless, dean of the College of Natural Resources at UC Berkeley, will introduce the panel and give an overview of the economics of biofuels.
DETAILS
Each summer, the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation Fellows Council brings government officials to California from various Washington, D.C., departments, agencies and committees to expose them to wide-ranging issues affecting California agriculture. The fellows attending on Saturday will include Teresa Davies, director of legislative affairs for the National Science Foundation; Alicia Kaiser, special assistant for agricultural policy at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and Keith Miller, acting director of animal and plant health inspection service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
