WHAT
"Forum on Courts, Politics, and the Media," a series of panel discussions presented by the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law's Institute for Legal Research.
Panelists will discuss how reporters view the courts; how changes in the technology of reporting and disseminating news affects news coverage and the judicial process itself; and how judges view the media's work and the media's impact on their work as judges.
The forum will also touch on issues involving the pending presidential election; pressures on journalists to reveal the identity of their confidential sources; military courts for terrorism suspects and due process rights.
Panelist Linda Greenhouse, former U.S. Supreme Court reporter for The New York Times, will reflect on her 30 years of covering the court and on the new challenges and opportunities associated with electronic reporting via blogs and media publication's Web sites. Academics, reporters and former reporters, will also share their perspectives on these and other forum issues.

Fletcher of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals; Emily Bazelon of Slate.com; Henry Weinstein, former Los Angeles Times legal affairs reporter and UC Irvine School of Law faculty member; Molly Selvin, former Los Angeles Times reporter and Pardee RAND Graduate School faculty member; Gordon Silverstein, UC Berkeley political science professor; and UC Berkeley School of Law professors Jesse Choper, Harry Scheiber and Goodwin Liu.
