ATTENTION: Business, energy, technology and political writers
WHAT
A symposium on the most significant energy opportunities and challenges facing California and the United States.
The theme of this third annual event, "Bold Ideas for a New Energy Landscape," at the University of California, Berkeley, will feature expert discussions of such issues as the future of the auto industry, financing renewable energy, nuclear power, solar energy, smart grid technology, biofuels, green building and energy efficiency. Participants will include world-class researchers, clean tech entrepreneurs, policy makers, business leaders and students.
The symposium is organized by the Berkeley Energy & Resources Collaborative (BERC), an interdisciplinary, student-run organization.

8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23
WHERE
Pauley Ballroom, on the third floor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union, on campus near the intersection of Telegraph Avenue and Bancroft Way.
WHO
Delivering keynote addresses will be Mary Nichols, chair of the California Air Resources Board, and John Hofmeister, chief executive of Citizens for Affordable Energy and former president of Shell Oil Company.

BERC was founded in 2005 to enhance collaboration on energy and natural resources topics and to serve as a bridge between the campus and the private sector. The organization runs Cleantech to Market, a commercialization program partnering with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; Students for Energy and Environmental Development, a K-12 energy education initiative; and BERC Innovative Solutions, a student consulting group.
