East Bay housing crisis, solutions under review

WHAT

The "State of Housing in the East Bay: Crisis and Solutions," an afternoon exploration of how the foreclosure and financial mess is affecting low-income families, local housing markets, non-profit housing developers and land use policies in the region as well as opportunities for federal and state funding.

The free program is being sponsored in part by the University of California, Berkeley's Center for Community Innovation.

WHEN

2-5 p.m., Wednesday, May 13

WHERE

The Great Room at the Bancroft Hotel, 2680 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, just west of the intersection of Bancroft Way and College Avenue.

WHO

Sean Heron, senior policy analyst with the Oakland Housing Authority, will moderate a panel of experts that will include:

• Linda Wheaton, assistant deputy director of housing policy development for the California Department of Housing and Community Development
• Matt Schwartz, president and CEO of the California Housing Partnership Corporation
• Lynette Lee, executive director of the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation
• Sergio Barajas, vice president of the National Community Stabilization Trust
• Anne Cory, director of the Corporation for Supportive Housing

Karen Chapple, a UC Berkeley professor of city and regional planning, will make a presentation about the East Bay's critical housing needs.
