Brostrom to serve interim role at UCOP leading business operations
27 August 2009
UC President Yudof is announcing today the appointment of Vice Chancellor-Administration Nathan Brostrom as Interim Executive Vice President for Business Operations through December 31, 2009, while the President recruits for a permanent replacement for Executive Vice President Katherine Lapp, who is leaving UC in early September to move to Harvard University.
Vice Chancellor Brostrom will retain his position at Berkeley in the interim. Beginning after the Labor Day weekend, he will spend four days each week at UC headquarters in Oakland and one day each week on the Berkeley campus. Administration's Associate Vice Chancellors will manage the day-to-day operations of the units. These interim coverage measures for campus units will ensure continuity of quality services for faculty, staff and students. We believe that Nathan's temporary deployment will serve both the Office of the President and our campus very well.
Among the important campus initiatives in which Nathan will continue to participate is the Operational Excellence Effort. This initiative is a critical strategy in our ability to achieve the long-term savings and operational efficiencies that will enable Berkeley to emerge from our current budget challenges a stronger and more effective organization.
Please join me in congratulating Nathan on this opportunity, which clearly recognizes his expertise and the outstanding leadership that he has contributed to UC and our campus over the past three and a half years.
Yours sincerely,
Robert J. Birgeneau
