"Islam and Democracy in East Asia," a public lecture at the University of California, Berkeley, being hosted by UC Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy, Center for Southeast Asian Studies and Institute of East Asian Studies.

WHO
The lecturer is Anwar Ibrahim, a former deputy prime minister of Malaysia and a major critic of that government's policies. He was imprisoned in solitary confinement for six years on corruption charges before the courts overturned his conviction.
In 2008, Anwar was elected to the Malaysian Parliament. Today he lectures at universities in the United States and Great Britain on issues involving governance, democracy and contemporary Asia. He remains an outspoken critic of government corruption and abuse of executive power, and was featured in the May 18 issue of The New Yorker.
