Berkeley -- Reporters are invited to an afternoon symposium Monday, Jan. 29, on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley to hear the latest from the frontiers of science, medicine and engineering. The "Frontiers of Science" symposium is sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences in conjunction with the first-ever gathering of NAS fellows in the Western states. Some 100 fellows are expected to meet in the morning to discuss academy business with NAS president Bruce Alberts. Moderated by former Science magazine editor and National Academy of Sciences Fellow Daniel Koshland Jr., the talks by four of the Bay Area's most eminent scientists will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. in Sibley Auditorium, Bechtel Engineering Center, which is located off Hearst Avenue in the northeast corner of the Berkeley campus. The symposium is open to the campus community, National Academy of Sciences members and media only. Members of the media should call (510) 643-6998 to reserve a seat in the main auditorium.
