UC Berkeley welcomes everyone to its annual Cal Day open house on Saturday, April 13

Berkeley -- The University of California at Berkeley is world renowned for its scholarship, research and athletics. On Saturday, April 13 visitors can sample all the campus has to offer at Cal Day.

The campus will hold its open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Technology and innovation will be the focus of the day, with events and activities of interest to all ages.

Want a taste of academic pomp and circumstance? Attend the 11:30 a.m. Charter Day celebration on the plaza in front of Dwinelle Hall.

Wonder what goes on inside those world-famous labs? Duck into laboratories and computer centers throughout campus to find out.

And, get a sneak preview of the football team as new coach Steve Mariucci holds a free, open practice in Memorial Stadium from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

With the exception of some athletic events, most of the events at the open house are free. As a special treat, all the campus's museums -- including the Lawrence Hall of Science -- will be open and there will be no admission charge. Parking in most campus lots is free as well.

Across campus, noted faculty will share their wisdom and research in lectures throughout the day. Nobel Laureate Charles Townes will speak at 2 p.m. in Wheeler Auditorium

For youngsters, the Children's Literature Festival features 25 authors, storytellers and illustrators throughout the day in the student union building on Sproul Plaza.
