WHAT: UC Berkeley technology experts will run large coils of wire through buildings on the Berkeley High campus, convert an old home economics classroom complete with ancient sinks and refrigerators to new uses for the information age, and bring online a wing of ethnic studies classrooms. By the end of the day, 60 computers at Berkeley High School will be live on the Internet. WHEN: 8:30 a.m.to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 9. WHERE: Berkeley High School, 2246 Milvia St. Networking will be installed in several locations including computer lab of library in Building B. WHY: UC Berkeley will wire Berkeley High School for NetDay96 under the leadership of David Wasley, an engineer who for the last 12 years has directed construction of UC Berkeleyıs computer network and is now working with the University of California Office of the President. NetDay96 is a grassroots volunteer effort throughout California to wire schools for access to the Internet. WHO: David Wasley will be on site at Berkeley High March 9 to field press requests and conduct interviews.
