MEDIA ADVISORY -- Beat Poets at UC Berkeley

WHAT: Publishers and other literati gather at UC Berkeley to talk about the legacy of the beat poets in a two-day conference titled "Ferlinghetti, City Lights and the Beats in San Francisco: from the Margins to the Mainstream." On the second day, Ferlinghetti will read from his poetry following an introduction by Poet Laureate and UC Berkeley English Professor Robert Hass.

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 (plus an 8 p.m. poetry reading), and 2 to

3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, followed by a reception.

WHERE: Friday conference: Morrison Reading Room of Doe Library

Friday night poetry reading; 310 Wheeler Hall

Saturday event with Ferlinghetti and Hass: 155 Dwinelle Hall

WHY: The conference is sponsored by UC Berkeley's Bancroft Library to open a new exhibition titled "Ferlinghetti, City Lights and the Beats in San Francisco."
