MEDIA ADVISORY -- Vision Science Meeting at UC Berkeley

WHAT: A free public symposium on how to deal with the loss of vision, particularly as the population ages, sponsored by the UC Berkeley School of Optometry as part of a two-day conference on clinical applications of basic research in vision science.

WHEN: The public symposium, titled, "Low Vision for the Lay Person," will be held Monday, April 29, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in room 2050 of the Valley Life Sciences Building.

The conference itself will be 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 29 in 355 Minor Hall. The scientists will be available at the conclusion to answer questions.

WHY: Vision scientists from several parts of the world will attend the two-day conference, which will include data on the newest techniques for correcting nearsightedness with surgery. Director Carl Kupfer of the National Eye Institute is among the speakers .The conference is being held in honor of former optometry dean, Jay Enoch.
