Wednesday, Sept. 24 Research Says Eat More Fruits and Vegetables and Lower Your Cancer Risk Your mother's age-old advice to eat your fruits and vegetables to stay healthy is now scientific fact according to UC Berkeley's Bruce Ames. Ames's research reveals that the quarter of the population that eats the fewest fruits and vegetables has about double the cancer rate of the quarter that eats the most. In addition to cancer, five portions of fruits and vegetables a day can help combat other ailments, including cataracts, cardiovascular disease and brain dysfunction. Ames will discuss the causes of aging and cancer and the use of nutrition as prevention at 4:10 p.m. in 101 Morgan Hall in a lecture sponsored by the Department of Nutritional Sciences (Media Contact: Benita Smith (510) 642-5165) A complete listing of campus events is available at: http://www.berkeley.edu/calendar
