Dream Up a Bug
You can put together an insect of your own design at the Lawrence Hall of Science Insect Art day March 11 from noon to 4 p.m. Insect parts will be provided. Also make insect masks and origami critters or just enjoy the huge robo-insects that lunge and wiggle like the real thing, all free with museum admission.

Students Telecommute
Some Berkeley students will earn credit without coming to campus after two new projects get going funded by the Office of the President Intercampus Academic Program Incentive Fund.
The first is a course on the Internet to be taught over the Internet.
The second is an engineering class which will meet in a "virtual" classroom, in reality spread out over five locations around the state.
Also funded by the program will be a tutorial computer program and computer-assisted instruction in mechanical engineering.
The Office of the President is providing funds to explore ways the nine campuses can work together on using technology for teaching. All told, eight projects were funded.

Window on Japan
Twenty-five thousand origami cranes will hover over a new exhibit of Japanese books for children at the Museum of Art, Science and Culture at Blackhawk starting March 25.
Called "Window on Japan," the exhibit puts a new spin on traditional folktales and legends from the region. And even if you can't read the books--most are in Japanese--their delicate illustrations and photography make the trip a treat for the art alone.
The cranes are on loan from the San Francisco Grace Cathedral.
Chicano/Latino Grads Need Help Organizing
The committee for Chicano/Latino graduation is asking for help from faculty, staff and seniors to develop and organize this year's ceremony. Meetings are held every two weeks from noon to 1 p.m. in room 3407 Dwinelle Hall.

Nominate Managers
The Berkeley Staff Assembly is once again calling for nominations for its annual Excellence in Management Awards. This year's focus is on staff development.
Nominations must be submitted by March 15. The awards will be presented at a May 9 ceremony.

Soaking Up the Rays
Dozens of prisms catch the sunlight year around in the latest outdoor sculpture now installed at the Lawrence Hall of Science.
"Spectralwave" by retired artist Alex Nicoloff of the Phoebe Hearst Museum of Anthropology depicts the laws of optics and the movement of the sun.
It joins the hall's 60-foot climbing model of a DNA molecule and other objets d'art overlooking the bay from the hall's hill site.
Lange Fellowship
The Dorothea Lange Fellowship for $2,500 in memory of one of the most outstanding documentary photographers of the century is accepting applications through April 7 for scholarly work in any discipline using the still camera.
Eligible are graduate students, senior undergraduates accepted for graduate work at Berkeley and faculty members interested in documentary photography.
Applicants must submit five to seven photographs no larger than 11x14 inches, three letters of recommendation on scholarly and photographic interests and skills, a proposal of 200 to 400 words for a photographic project and a one paragraph project summary.

Witches Revisited
The Doreen B. Townsend Center, the Department of History and the Center for German and European Studies will present "Modern Witchcraft Research and the Death of a Paradigm" by H. C. Eric Midelfort of the University of Virginia March 13 at 4 p.m. in 2 Le Conte Hall.
This is the first in a series of three lectures Midelfort will deliver on problems historians have interpreting the psychology of their subjects from the past. For details, call 643-9670.
