Hazel O'Leary Visits

U.S. Secretary of Energy Hazel O'Leary will speak April 6 at the Lawrence Hall of Science for the 20th anniversary celebration of the Energy and Resources Group. She will speak on "Energy and the Environment" at 6 p.m.

U.N.'s Next 50 Years

Timothy Wirth, undersecretary of global affairs with the U.S. State Department, will speak Monday, March 20, on the U.N. and its next 50 years.

The Institute of International Studies is hosting Wirth's visit. He'll speak at 7:30 p.m. in Sibley Auditorium in the Bechtel Engineering Center.

Wirth is a former representative and senator from Colorado who served in the White House in the Johnson and Nixon administrations.

At the State Department, he is responsible for coordinating a broad group of global programs, including population, environment, science, human rights and refugees, among others.

Cal Fit Gets Going

A new round of Cal Fit classes for staff, faculty and students is beginning with additional sessions to start in April, June and July.

Highlights include squash classes with world-class pro coaches and racquetball classes taught by Del Villanueva, campus head racquetball coach.

Tennis videotaping and analysis on court is new this year as are two-hour specialty clinics featuring stroke work and strategy offered Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Also new is pilates body conditioning, a method used by dancers and professional athletes. It emphasizes using abdominal and back muscles to align the body.

Other classes include many kinds of dance, ice skating, swimming, golf, weight training, volleyball and self-defense.
