Medical Plan Carriers: Schedule Revised
The schedule of informational sessions offered by the medical plan carriers, as listed in the Aug. 23 Berkeleyan, has been revised. Unfortunately, the sessions scheduled in October with Foundation and Prudential had to be cancelled due to their proximity to the Open Enrollment period in November. September sessions will take place as follows:
* Health Net. Thursday, Sept. 7. Presentation times: 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m.
* Take Care. Thursday, Sept.14, 10 a.m., noon.
* Kaiser. Thursday, Sept. 21, 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m.
These meetings will assist employees in understanding how to effectively use their current plans and aid those considering changing medical plans during Open Enrollment. All sessions will be held in Room 150 University Hall and will last approximately one hour. Seating capacity is 90 and will be on a first come, first served basis.
Note that all medical plan carriers will be represented at the Open Enrollment Fair on Nov. 13. Also, plans call for scheduling another informational series with all the medical plan carriers after the first of the year.

Kay Ingle, operations manager for Mail Services, has earned the Certified Mail and Distribution Systems Manager certification. Certification requires professional experience in mail management including participation in professional organizations and successful completion of an exam testing managerial expertise and knowledge of postal information. She becomes one of 152 mail management staff in the nation and one of three in the UC system who have this certification.
Bill McCart, director of Mail Services, was awarded a "Mail Center Manager Award" by the US Postal Service at the National Postal Forum's conference in Nashville in May. The award recognizes managers for creating a high quality environment in the mail center and excellence in mail management skills.
In addition, McCart was appointed to a US Postal Service advisory group to provide feedback from major mailers on a proposed restructuring of the Postal Service's rates and services.
"I'm honored to be included in this effort," said McCart, "but as it stands now, the classification reform will cause colleges and universities to lose most of the postage discounts they're now earning. We're trying to get the Postal Service to rethink some of its proposals to lessen the impact on higher education, but it's not clear at this time what will happen."
