Guitty Azarpay, professor emeritus of Near Eastern art and professor in the graduate school, has been named speaker of the year in Iranian studies by the Foundation for Iranian Studies in Washington, DC.
Azarpay's current research on the Indo-Iranian art of the Silk Roads was the theme of a year-long lecture series, which she directed, at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Last month she presented a paper on her research at Cambridge, to be published in a 1996 "Bulletin of the Asia Institute." The topic is included in Azarpay's contribution to a comprehensive study of Iranian art in preparation by Iran University Press.
Friends and colleagues of Antoni K. Oppenheim, professor emeritus of mechanical engineering, have organized a Jubilee Symposium in honor of Oppenheim's 80th birthday. The symposium is being held this week at the Technical University in Warsaw, Poland.
Oppenheim also will receive the Fellowship of Imperial College during Commemoration Day ceremonies Oct. 26 at Royal Albert Hall, London.
