Hodges, a member of the faculty since 1970, has been active in teaching and research in microelectronics technology and design, and has made major contributions to electronic design and to the analysis of semiconductor manufacturing systems.
Jaqueline Mintz, director of the Graduate Student Instructor Teaching and Resource Center, has received, for the second time in five years, one of four annual awards for excellence in teaching and education development from the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education.
For the most recent award, Mintz was selected for the design, implementation and evaluation of her comparative literature course on drama. With guidance from Mintz, students shared the teaching by working in small groups to select a play and teach it to the class using a variety of strategies. The class evaluated Mintz and the project highly.
Carol Stack, professor of education, is a co-recipient of the Society for Anthropology of North America's SANA Prize for Critical Study of North America. The award recognizes Stack's career-long research on the African-American family, kinship and economic issues, as well as her extensive work in family policy. Her book, "All Our Kin," was cited by the organization as "one of the true classics of twentieth century anthropology of North America."
Ignacio Tinoco Jr., professor of chemistry, is the recipient of the Biophysical Society's E. R. Cole Award for 1996. The award honors outstanding achievement in the field based on the usefulness of scientific methods to others.
