Call for Comments: UC Email Policy

A draft of the University of California Electronic Mail Policy has been posted for review at http://www.ucop.edu/ucophome/

policies/email/

For those who do not have access to a networked Macintosh or PC with a Web browser, public PCs are available in the main library.

The policy clarifies how other university policies and the law apply to electronic mail, and discusses appropriate use, disclosure and privacy, security and confidentiality, archiving and retention, and other issues related to the use of electronic mail.

Campus community members are invited to submit comments on the draft by May 20. Please send comments to emailpol@ ucop.edu.

Comments will be forwarded to Associate Vice Chancellor Jack McCredie. The feasibility of responding to comments individually will depend on the volume received.

Management Awards

The Berkeley Staff Assembly will present its Excellence in Management Awards Thursday, May 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Lipman Room in Barrows Hall.

This year's theme is managers who seek to maintain a healthy environment by encouraging and supporting health and safety in the workplace.

The Berkeley Staff Assembly seeks nominations of managers from the staff they supervise, providing staff members an opportunity to recognize managers who truly stand out in various aspects of their jobs.

Law Library Will Close for Summer

The G.W.McEnerney Law Library at Boalt Hall will close Saturday, May 18, for renovation. The current expectation is that the library will reopen at the end of August or early September.

To accommodate the renovation, and to protect the collection, all the books will be removed from the stacks and placed in storage. To meet project deadlines, the move will begin Monday, May 6. Thus, many books will be unavailable before the actual closing date.

During the closure, all books will be unavailable for use.

Kathleen Vanden Heuvel, deputy director of the library, apologizes on behalf of the staff for the inconvenience this may cause campus library users, and says they look forward to the reopening in the fall.
