Staff Enrichment: Employee Training and Development Workshops

Upcoming Employee Development and Training sessions include the following. For information or to enroll, call 642-8134.

Resume Writing, Applications and Effective Interviewing, Oct. 7, 14 and 28 (three 3-1/2 hour sessions), 8:30 a.m.-noon, on how to develop the essential marketing tools needed for your job search.

Emphasis will be placed on the development of a resume and cover letter tailored to the "Job Listing." The final class in the three-part series will help to prepare for interviews and get feedback on your interview style. Time will be allowed for videotaping and feedback on your strengths and areas that need additional work.

Facilitation Techniques, Oct. 9 and 16 (two days), 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m, on how to create an environment that is productive, challenging and supportive. What you can do during the planning stages for a meeting, training, retreat or discussion that will help you facilitate it more effectively.

This workshop combines group discussion, lecture and skills practice that focus on how to increase participant involvement and learning. Each participant will be able to facilitate a group discussion that will be video taped, and will receive feedback on strengths and skills as a facilitator.

Working in Teams II (Understanding Our Differences Can Build Teamwork), Oct. 9, 9:15-11:45 a.m. We each bring a unique set of characteristics, behaviors, experiences and styles to our work with others. Often it is these differences that people perceive as problems that inhibit effective teamwork. In this session we will explore the benefits of understanding our differences and how they can enhance team effectiveness.

New Employee Orientation, Oct. 15, 8:30 a.m.-noon. This orientation covers campus structure, campus culture, benefits, computer competency and safety related issues.

Presentations addressing these issues are given by staff from the campus Police Department; Environment, Health and Safety; University Health Services; and the Benefits Office.
