Exciting and educational activities await families at Cal Day -- the annual campuswide open house -- Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Family members will enjoy a day of discovery as Berkeley faculty, students, museums and departments host special events for parents and their children.

Visitors can take in a wide range of activities, including sports, music, lectures and demonstrations, while experiencing one of the nation's top research universities.

Program highlights include:

o Future Technology -- race robotic cars, build an intelligent robot with Legos, or learn about 21st century travel with solar, supermileage and human-powered vehicles built by engineering students.

o Around the World at International House -- experience the crafts, culture and cuisine of the world's nations as International House hosts its annual SpringFest.

o Oski's Eye Exam -- Cal's lovable mascot has his eyes examined with Chancellor Tien and Dean Anthony Adams.

o Home Bugs in Cyberspace -- an introduction to backyard bugs, with hands-on activities and exploration of insect web sites on the Internet.

o Cal Football -- watch an open scrimmage at Memorial Stadium, then meet players and new head coach Tom Holmoe.

o Children's Activity Area -- the Cal Rally Committee hosts a special play area for children ages 3-12 that includes games, prizes and a carnival atmosphere.

o Free Museums -- take the free shuttle up to Lawrence Hall of Science, where kids can use chemistry to solve crimes; sing and play ancient Latin-American music at the Hearst Museum of Anthropology; or experience a Jurassic encounter with the Museum of Paleontology's full-size T. rex model.

o Celebration of Children's Literature -- award-winning authors, illustrators and storytellers from the Bay Area delight kids with tales of whimsy and intrigue.
