Whiteness Considered

"The Making and Unmaking of Whiteness" is the subject of a conference April 11 to 13 sponsored by the Department of Comparative Ethnic Studies among many others.

According to organizers of the event, the study of whitness is both comparative (whiteness being viewed as a socially constructed race among others) and critical (as an identity that has historically helped to perpetuate social inequalities). The chief goal of the weekend is to promote dialogue among scholars of whiteness across the disciplines and throughout the UC system.

The format features presentations, works-in-progress, and opportunity for discussion by faculty, graduates and the public.

The conference will be held in the Lipman Room on the eighth floor of Barrows Hall and is free and open to the public.
