  • A one-session class which assists staff in understanding what is required when an employee becomes injured on the job. This workshop is a must for managers and supervisors.

  • Asian-American Couples Communication. Oct. 16, 6-7:30 p.m., Tang Center.

    This early evening seminar addresses communication issues for Asian and Asian-American couples, and how differences in cultural background, language and migration patterns can affect relationships.

    Facilitator Peter Chang of Solano Pacific Psychological Services, is a psychologist with extensive experience and expertise in this area. Couples as well as individuals are encouraged to attend.

 

  • Barriers, Boundaries and Busy Schedules: Stress Management for Supervisors and Managers. Oct. 20 and 27, noon-1:30 p.m.

    This two-part seminar is intended for campus managers and supervisors. The seminar will provide a supportive forum for managers/supervisors to talk about their unique sources of stress, to crystallize their reactions to stress, to identify resources for coping with stress, and to help develop positive approaches to stress management.

  • Anger Management: A Brown Bag Presentation for Men. Oct. 17, noon-1:30 p.m. (including optional half-hour question and answer period). Section Club Room, Tang Center.

    Anger can be a destructive, even a self-destructive, emotion. For men especially, it is not uncommon to feel anger at the expense of other emotions and to use anger as our most comfortable response to set-backs.

    For this brown bag presentation, Albert Dytch of the Center for Non-Abusive Relationships will speak to these issues and more. No enrollment is required.

  • UC Policies/Benefits of Interest to Caregivers. Oct. 23, noon-1:30 p.m. (including optional 30-minute discussion). Section Club Room, Tang Center.
    Part of CARE Services ongoing Taking Care brown-bag series, this presentation will provide information about UC policies and employee benefits potentially useful to faculty and staff caring for a parent or other adult.

    The session will be presented by benefits manager Yvonne DeVaughn and a representative from Human Resources, Employee Relations. No enrollment is required.

  • Gay/Lesbian Couples Communication. Oct. 22, 6-7:30 p.m., Tang Center.

    This early evening seminar addresses common strengths and difficulties in communication patterns for same sex couples, lesbians and gay men. It also considers tools for couples to identify gender-based dynamics that can enhance and protect their relationships.

    Facilitators Jeannette Gurevitch and Myron Gulseth of Solano Pacific Psychological Services have years of experience and expertise in this area. Couples as well as individuals are encouraged to attend.

  • New Employee Orientation. Oct. 21, Nov. 4, or 18, 8:30 a.m.-noon.

    This orientation, offered twice monthly, covers campus structure, culture and benefits, computer competency and safety-related issues.

    Presentations addressing these topics are given by staff from the campus police department, Environment, Health and Safety, University Health Services and the campus benefits office.

 

  • Resolving Conflicts: For Staff. Nov. 5, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

    Workshop participants discuss and analyze typical workplace conflicts, assess their styles of dealing with conflict, learn to select a strategy for dealing with conflict that is appropriate to a given situation and practice effective listening and speaking skills.

    (Note: Supervisorsvisors and managers should take "Managing and Mediating Conflict,"offered in the spring.)
