They're graceful, mysterious, play-ful and America's number one pet. The exotic world of the cat, both domestic and wild, will be explored in a unique, interactive exhibit at the Lawrence Hall of Science, opening Saturday, Feb. 7. "Cats! Wild to Mild" features a variety of displays highlighting the history, biology, mythology and evolution of felines. Visitors prowling the museum can see a taxidermied snow leopard, jaguar and mountain lion; feel a giant cat tongue with its sandpaper-like texture, enab-ling it to lick meat off the bones of prey; listen to various cat vocalizations, from a contented purr to a giant roar; and learn interesting facts and trivia (for example, cats spend 70 percent of their day sleeping and were domesticated more than 4,000 years ago). An opening day celebration will kick-off the exhibit Saturday, Feb. 7, from noon to 4 p.m. Highlights include a visit from the celebrity cats featured in Friskies commercials and a chance to meet a real lynx, ocelot and mountain lion in a special educational presentation at 1:00 and 2:15 p.m. Opening day activities are free with museum admission.
