Catch a First-Run Flick Right Here on Campus "Coming soon to a theater near you" takes on new meaning as Berkeley's student production group, SUPERB, presents first-run films in Wheeler auditorium on Friday nights throughout the spring semester. This semester's schedule includes the box-office hit "Titanic," Oscar contender "L.A. Confidential" and the latest Bond adventure, "Tomorrow Never Dies." Films for the series are selected by a committee of students, with the help of a survey on SUPERB's web site, where viewers can cast votes for favorite films. Reception Honors Coastal Engineer Robert Wiegel, professor emeritus and coastal engineer, was honored Feb. 20 for his recently published oral history documenting five decades as a coastal engineering professor and a researcher in wave and beach processes and earthquake-generated tsunamis. The reception at Water Resources Center Archives celebrated the 327-page volume, "Coastal Engineering: Research, Consulting and Teaching, 1946-1997," published by the Regional Oral History Office of the Bancroft Library. The memoir reveals insights on technological transfer and the complex interrelationships of academia, government and industry. Drummond Speaks On American Identity William Drummond, professor of journalism, discusses "What Does It Mean to Be an American?" Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni House. Drummond's is the second of four discussions on American identity taking place on campus this spring. Each discussion includes a professor in conversation with David Batstone, associate professor of social ethics at USF. Admission is $15 for the public, $5 for students from Berkeley, the Graduate Theological Union, UC Berkeley Extension and members of the California Alumni Association. Christian Keynotes Women's Conference "Designing Women" is the theme of the 7th annual "Boundaries in Question" Conference, to be held Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, in Barrows Hall's Lipman Room. Barbara Christian, professor of African-American Studies, will be the keynote speaker. "Boundaries in Question" is a yearly symposium spotlighting graduate student work in feminist research, theory and practice.
