Vicky Cruz, with Physical Plant‚Campus Services, was one of nearly 70 campus staff who provided free home repairs to low-income and disabled seniors in Berkeley during the day-long Christmas in April event, April 24.

In addition to painting exteriors, the volunteers helped remodel bathrooms, rebuild fences, recycle clutter and plant new flowers. Berkeley administrators contributed $9,000 for materials.

"We were pleased to see so many staff willing to give up an entire Saturday for this community service project," said Caleb Dardick, Community Relations manager and Christmas in April board member. "Next year we'd like to recruit enough Berkeley volunteers to repair ten homes."
