News Briefs Posted October 20, 1999 Changes Made in Night Shuttle Lines The campus is making changes in pilot service on the Night Safety Shuttle "D" line, whose boundaries are Milvia Street, Dwight Avenue, Telegraph Avenue and Derby Street. On an interim basis, the pick-up service that currently runs on Parker and Blake Streets will be suspended. Service to this area will be provided on a door-to-door basis only, using the most direct route possible. At the shuttle's Milvia and Haste stop, passengers will be asked their destination. If no one needs to be dropped off south of Dwight Way, the vehicle will use Dwight Way eastbound to pass the LeConte neighborhood entirely. Modifications have also been made to the "T" line. Pick-ups on that line are still provided until 11 p.m. After 11, "T" line door-to-door boundaries are Dwight Avenue, Warring Street, Derby Street and Telegraph Avenue. Passengers and neighborhood residents affected by Night Shuttle service on the "D" or "T" lines are invited to offer comments at ucpolice@uclink.berkeley.edu or by calling 643-9375.
To view or download the schedules for the "D" or "T" lines, see http://public-safety.berkeley.edu/p&t/. The faculty clubs invite non-members to attend a New Year's Eve celebration at both facilities and the log cabin between them. From 8 p.m. until, the Millenni-Yum-Yum will feature piano and big band music, songs, skits and lectures, as well as hors d'oeuvres, champagne and an open bar.
Invitations were sent out to club members only, but several spaces for non-members have opened up. Cost is $99, with a $25 non-refundable deposit. A former president of the Association of American Universities will speak Tuesday, Oct. 26 on "An Evolving Relationship: Research Universities and Private Sector Cooperative Ventures." The lecture takes place in the Bancroft Library's Stone Room from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Stanford University political scientist Robert Rosenzweig will lecture as part of the fall series of events from campus's Center for Studies in Higher Education. Rosenzweig is author of the 1998 book "The Political University: Policy, Politics, and Presidential Leadership in the American Research University" from Johns Hopkins Press, and books on related topics. For information call 642-5040.
