Leon Chua

Professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences Leon Chua was selected to receive the Millennium Medal from the Circuits and Systems Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Millennium Medals are awarded for outstanding contributions in various fields of engineering. Chua also received the organization's Golden Jubilee Medal for his "outstanding contributions to the society." Chua received both awards in June at the IEEE International Symposium of Circuits and Systems in Geneva, Switzerland.

Hari Dharan

Professor of mechanical engineering Hari Dharan received the Excellence in Teaching Award for 2000 from the Berkeley Pi Omega Chapter of Pi Tau Sigma, the national mechanical engineering honor society. Dharan was honored for his "great commitment and enthusiasm for his students."

Adib Kanafani

Professor and chairman of civil and environmental engineering, Adib Kanafani, will receive the American Society of Civil Engineers' James Laurie Prize for 2000. Kanafani was named "for his contributions to the advancement of transportation engineering through his teaching and research at the University of California, Berkeley, and his service to ociety during his long and distinguished career." He will receive his award at the society's national convention in Seattle in October.
