Photo of the Week: Inaugural Performance

Gamelan

Faculty and students perform during the inauguration of a Balinese gamelan -- Semar Pagulingan Saih Pitu -- in Morrison Hall Dec. 7. The new gamelan is a 1.5-ton assembly of 30 instruments including gongs, drums, cymbals and flutes made of bronze, bamboo and finely carved gilded wood. The gamelan was also blessed and purified by three Balinese performers. An upcoming Cal Performances concert on Feb. 16 and 17 will feature the gamelan's music. Noah Berger photo.
