Employees, students and campus users are asked to take the following precautions in the event of stage 2 or 3 energy alerts to curtail consumption:
  • Keep windows and doors closed to prevent the loss of heated or cooled air.
  • Reduce overhead lighting as much as possible.
  • Turn off PCs, monitors and printers when not in use. If possible utilize a laptop computer instead of a desktop model.
  • Turn off all copiers and other electrical equipment when not in use.
  • Minimize the use of portable electrical devices, especially electric heaters, microwave ovens, toaster ovens and other electrical appliances.
  • Building operators are responsible for maintaining and adjusting temperature controls to obtain optimum advantage from outside temperatures.
  • Call the campus utility hotline, (800) 979-9995, for the status of utility emergencies when they exist; call the campus conservation hotline, 510-642-SAVE, for suggestions or questions about energy conservation.
