Gay Englezos
Gay Englezos, a UC employee for 36 years, mostly on the Berkeley campus, died of cancer Sept. 27 in Pilot Hills, Calif.

Englezos began working at Berkeley as a student employee in the Office of Research Services in the College of Engineering. She went on to positions in the anthropology department, Center for Law and Society, Institute for Urban and Regional Development and the Management Analysis Group. She left Berkeley to head the office of gifts and endowments in the Office of President. Later, she joined the Davis campus, where at the time of her death, she was special assistant to Celeste Rose, vice chancellor for university relations.

"Although her university relations service was brief, her accomplishments were many," said Rose. "She gave the very best of her energy, talent and experience as a seasoned university administrator and a consummate professional. We have lost a friend, a colleague and a valued member of the university family."

Englezos began her undergraduate studies at Smith College before completing her work at Berkeley in 1973. She was an avid gardener, potter, community volunteer and equestrian. She is survived by her husband, Tom Englezos, a 1970 Berkeley graduate.

An endowed scholarship fund has been established in her memory, to provide an annual scholarship to a married female student. Send contributions to The University of California, Berkeley Foundation, attention Gay Chandelle Englezos Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Linda Rico, associate director, Undergraduate Affairs, 203 Sproul Hall #1530, Berkeley, Calif., 94720-1530.
