Cal reaches NCAA tournament

14 March 2001 | The men’s basketball team battles Fresno State in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday, March 16. The game, played in Memphis, will be televised at 7:10 p.m. on KPIX Channel 5.

And if that isn’t enough reason to celebrate, here’s another bit of good news: Sean Lampley, who recently became Cal’s all-time leading scorer, was named Pac-10 Player of the year.

Lampley and his teammates will get the chance to showcase their talents at the NCAA tournament, where Cal, seeded eighth in the South Region conference, faces the ninth-seeded Bulldogs. The winner could face top seed and defending champion Michigan State in the next round.

This is Cal’s 11th appearance at the NCAA tournament. They reached the “Sweet 16” five years ago and won its only national title in 1959. Visit http://www.calbears.com for updates on games and tickets, or call 1-800 GO BEARS.
