Nominate top managers for BSA awards by March 29
The Berkeley Staff Assembly is accepting nominations for its Excellence in Management Award through March 29.

This year’s theme, “2001: A Workplace Odyssey,” is aimed at managers and supervisors who have exhibited outstanding leadership in managing staff. Now in its 13th year, the award lets employees acknowledge the exemplary contributions of their managers and supervisors.

The award is open to all levels of employees, with the proviso that nominees must have managerial or supervisorial responsibilities for one year or more in their current positions. Nominations must originate from staff directly supervised by the nominee and include supporting signatures from at least half of the staff.

Nominations must be received by March 29. Awards will be announced in April, followed by an awards ceremony on May 11 at International House.

Nomination forms are available online at http://bsa.berkeley.edu:4218 and should be submitted to Marilyn Barulich, Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology, 103 Kroeber Hall #3712. For information, contact Barulich at barulich@uclink or 642-3681.

Nominations sought for Berkeley Citation
The campus community is invited to nominate retiring faculty or staff for the Berkeley Citation, one of the highest honors given by the campus.

The citation may be awarded to a wide range of distinguished people, academic or nonacademic, whose achievements significantly exceed the standards for advancement in their fields and whose contributions to Berkeley are “above and beyond the call of duty.”

For faculty, extraordinary achievement in a field of study must be coupled with outstanding service to the Berkeley campus, beyond teaching and research. Nominees must be strong in both categories to receive the honor. Staff recipients are cited for distinguished service to the campus.

Nominations may be made at any time and should be addressed to Chancellor Robert Berdahl, Office of the Chancellor, 200 California Hall #1500. Presentations are often made at commencement ceremonies or retirement celebrations; nominations should be sent four to six weeks before the date the award would be presented.

Visit http://www.urel.berkeley.edu/urel/dev_and_campaign/awards.html for details on the award.

Sponsoring a staff internship
Managers or supervisors interested in sponsoring a staff internship are invited to a meeting at noon, Friday, March 23, to learn more about the internship application and funding process.

The meeting will focus on the Staff Internship Program, how to prepare a funding proposal, how mentors can help interns realize career goals and learning objectives, and the benefits to departments or units that sponsor an intern.

The meeting takes place in the Section Club Room of the Tang Center, 2222 Bancroft Way. Visit http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/hrsip.htm for information about the Staff Internship Program.

Nominations sought for service awards
Nominations are open for exceptional staff members to receive the Distinguished Service Award when they retire. This award is given to staff for outstanding service to the university over the course of the recipient’s career. Those who have made unique contributions to the campus and performed well beyond their responsibilities are appropriate nominees.

Nominations should be directed to the chancellor four to six weeks in advance of the presentation date. Send letters of recommendation to: Chancellor Robert Berdahl, Office of the Chancellor, 200 California Hall #1500.

Anyone on or off campus may submit nominations. For additional information, see http://www.berkeley.edu:5027/cgi-bin/deans_memos/deans_memos.pl or call Colleen Rovetti at 643-6486.
