22 March 2001 | Professor Judith Klinman, chair of the chemistry department, chats with a visitor at a March 9 open house celebrating newly renovated labs in Lewis Hall. Biophysical chemistry work formerly housed in Hildebrand Hall now has a new home in Lewis, where teaching and research labs — dating back to when the building was first erected in the ’40s — have been “turned to really quite nice modern chemical biology labs on the 1st and 3rd floors,” says Clayton Heathcock, dean of the College of Chemistry. The lab upgrade is part of a $35 million program for seismic renovation and relocation for College of Chemistry facilities.
