World’s cultures to be celebrated at I-House Spring Festival

17 April 2001 | In addition to getting a glimpse of life on campus, Cal Day visitors can also experience the tastes, sounds and sights of exotic locales around the globe, at International House’s annual Spring Festival.

International House is a home away from home for many of the campus’s foreign and American students. Living together under one roof, culturally diverse residents gain an understanding of and appreciation for each other’s differences and similarities.

This year marks International House’s 70th anniversary, and the Spring Festival will celebrate this important milestone with a colorful display of dance, music, art, costumes and delicacies from countries far and wide.

Performances will take place on five different stages, representing such nations as Norway, India, Russia, China, Africa, Scotland and Chile.

Special activities for children — including clowns, face painting and international storytelling — can be found in the “Discoverarium.”

Booths offering jewelry, crafts, food and information will also be featured.

The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 21, is free for Berkeley faculty and staff, and children under 18. International House is located at 2299 Piedmont Ave., at the top of Bancroft Way. For information, call 642-9460.
