New Human Resources leader named

Moers

David Moers

22 August 2001 | The director of human resources at Washington State University, David Moers, has been hired to serve as Berkeley’s next assistant vice chancellor for human resources. Moers, who assumes his new position Oct. 1, has more than 20 years experience as a senior human resources manager.

In announcing the appointment to the campus community Aug. 17, Horace Mitchell, Vice Chancellor—Business & Administrative Services, cited Moers’ “broad experience in higher education and in both the non-profit and governmental sectors, with service at the local, state, national, and international levels.

“David Moers,” he said, “possesses the vision, experience, skills, and managerial leadership we need to continue the transformation of the Office of Human Resources, which was begun by former Assistant Vice Chancellor Sandy Haire.”

The new assistant vice chancellor has served at Washington State University since 1997. His previous positions include service as commissioner of personnel for the State of Vermont and as a personnel policies specialist and administrative officer for the United Nations World Food Program in New York and Rome. He holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Arizona State University.

“I am very excited by the opportunity to work at a world-class institution like Berkeley,” Moers said. “Berkeley has achieved an international reputation as a center for teaching, research and community service, in large part by attracting great faculty and staff.

“My goal for the Office of Human Resources,” he said, “is to make certain the University continues to attract and retain the best and brightest, and uses the tremendous pool of talent it has to maximum effectiveness. I look forward to working with Chancellor Berdahl, Vice Chancellor Mitchell, and the rest of the University community to achieve this goal.”
