Annual campus clean-up slated for Sept. 28 At this annual event, volunteers spread out across the campus to pick up litter and remove graffiti. The clean-up begins at noon and continues until 3 p.m., but participants may donate as little as an hour of their time. At the conclusion of the clean-up, volunteers will be treated with music from radio station Z95.7, food and drink, free T-shirts and the chance to win more than 70 prizes donated by local businesses. For information, e-mail mkarena@uclink.berkeley.edu or call 643-7822. Career Center presents new Web offerings Help SF Bay shorebirds; pick up trash Sept. 15 The event is part of an international effort to clean up beaches, bays and waterways. Last year, more than 1,030 people collected 30 tons of garbage in Berkeley, Albany and Emeryville. The staging area for Berkeley participants is behind the Seabreeze Market, at the corner of West Frontage Road and University Avenue at the Berkeley Marina. Arrive promptly to sign up, get a free cup of coffee, and hear a safety talk. Bring gloves, sunscreen and a hat. Clean-up bags and a raffle of donated prizes will follow the clean-up. To help beautify the Emeryville shoreline, meet at the firehouse on Powell Street. For Albany, go to Albany Beach at the foot of Buchanan Street. For information, call 644-8623. This event is designed to enlighten undeclared students to the wealth of academic opportunities available at Berkeley. During the five-hour open house, students can learn about the 60-plus majors offered by the college, as well as undergraduate support services available on campus. Students may speak with faculty advisers, department undergraduate advisers, student peer advisers active in departmental clubs, career counselors, college advisers and Berkeley alumni. All students, staff and faculty are invited to attend. For information, call Denise Poche at 643-5452 or Sharon Harvey at 642-8740. Memorial service, Sept. 9, honors former I-House staffer Barbara Anne Lynch The award — one of the campus’s highest accolades for staff — recognizes individual or teams of staff whose work goes above and beyond normal expectations and has had a positive impact on such areas as student services, customer relations, operational effectiveness, mentoring, staff development or community service.
