Think graduation — and you probably don’t conjure images of December. Yet nearly 1,500 Berkeley students are graduating this month, and like their peers who don cap and gown in May, December graduates will have the chance to mark the end of their days at Berkeley with a public ceremony. December Convocation is a new campus event, conceived last year to celebrate mid-term graduates. The ceremony will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m, Friday, Dec. 7 at Zellerbach Playhouse. This year’s keynote address by a Cal alum features Peter Chernin, ’73, president and chief operating officer of News Corp. and chairman and chief executive officer of Fox Entertainment Group. The ceremony will also include performances by the UC Men’s Octet and remarks by students, alumni and Chancellor Robert Berdahl. December Convocation is sponsored by Chancellor Berdahl, the California Alumni Association, and the Californians, a student leadership and community service group.
