Employees pitch in, carry campus through strike
28 August 2002
|
Campus operations, along with non-striking staff and faculty, felt the impact of a strike this week by clerical workers, but Berkeley’s central academic and administrative functions carried on, with help from employees all around campus. As the Berkeleyan went to press at the close of the second day of the three-day strike, Chancellor Berdahl issued a message thanking employees whose extra work and willingness to pitch in on the strike days kept the campus running and met the needs of students in their first week of classes. Even during this difficult week, the campus remains a “close community,” the chancellor said. He added his hope that labor issues between the unions and the UC Office of the President can be resolved quickly.
