Nominations due for campus community-service awards
Each year the campus presents Chancellor’s Community Service Awards to students, staff, faculty, and Cal organizations that have made significant volunteer contributions in the community. The deadline to submit nominations for this year’s awards is noon, Tuesday, April 1. Those selected will be honored at a celebation at the Berkeley YWCA, 2600 Bancroft Way, on Thursday, May 1.

Nomination forms are online at students.berkeley.edu/calcorps/awards.html.

For further information, see the website or contact Devin Kinyon at the Cal Corps Public Service Center, 643-0306.

Book drive to benefit Kabul University
A group of student organizations, working with local bookstores, is holding a book drive to help stock a library at Afghanistan’s Kabul University. “After 22 years of war… they need educated and qualified people to rebuild the nation,” says ASUC Senator Adnan Iqbal.
The drive, which began this week, runs through Friday, Feb. 28.

Members of the campus community are invited to donate books — new or in good condition — on virtually any subject. Do not include readers, academic journals, magazines, religious books, books containing nudity (except for biology books), or anything more than 8 years old. Collection bins are located on Sproul Plaza (look for a bright pink bin at the Afghan Students Association table), outside Moffitt Library and Pimentel Hall, and in student residence halls.

Campus sponsors include the Afghan Student Association, the ASUC, and the Muslim Student Association. The Asia Foundation is donating shipment from San Francisco to Kabul. For information, call 676-1705.
