Haas awards, lectures presented on Cal Day
The 2002 Haas Awards Presentations and Lectures celebrating distinguished service by Berkeley alumni will take place on Cal Day, Saturday, April 12, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Wheeler Auditorium.

Berkeley alumnus Dorodjatun “Jatun” Kuntjoro-Jakti, Indonesia’s Minister of Economy, is the recipient of the Elise and Walter A. Haas International Award. He will be unable to appear in person, but will deliver a video lecture on “The Role of Multi-track Diplomacy in the New Geopolitical World.” The Peter E. Haas Public Service Award recipient, Armando de la Libertad, a Wells Fargo Bank vice president and chair of the Orange County Hispanic Endowment Fund, will speak on “The End of All Education: Public Service.”

CARE Services offers support for military families
CARE Services is facilitating weekly noontime meetings to provide support to Berkeley faculty and staff who have loved ones engaged in the war with Iraq. The group meetings will include an opportunity to develop a peer-support network on campus, gather information on resources for military families, and share emotional and practical concerns and coping methods. The Thursday meetings start April 10 in 5053 Valley Life Sciences Building. For information, call 643-7374.

SISC information sessions set for staff
The Staff Infrastructure Steering Committee (SISC) and the Office of Human Resources are conducting information sessions to inform campus staff about progress made to date in designing a new job structure for Berkeley staff jobs.

SISC was appointed by the Chancellor to carry out the recommendations made by the Compensation Advisory Committee. Those recommendations included developing new job-classification and compensation systems, improving career-management opportunities, and creating an effective performance-management system.

Because organizing jobs in a logical structure is the foundation for making pay decisions, providing career-development opportunities, and recognizing performance, SISC started with the job classification system. The information sessions will present the proposed job structure for staff jobs.

The remaining two sessions will be held Monday, April 14, 10-11:30 a.m. in Sibley Auditorium (Bechtel Engineering Center) and Wednesday, April 16, 7:15-8:45 a.m. in 150 University Hall.
